Seven Grandfathers

This lesson plan is a part of an overall course entitled "Indigenous beliefs, values, and aspirations in a contemporary society".

 

The lesson plan 'the seven grandfathers' is designed to help the learner explore the concept of value development within themselves, their family, their community, and within a greater Canadian context.  

 

Overall Expectations:

By the end of this course, students will:

 

Explore their Indigenous Identity by describing the elements of culture reflected in various art forms such as stories depicting traditions, values and beliefs.

 

Specific Expectations:

 

By the end of this course, students will:

 

  • Describe gender roles in the creation and maintenance of traditions, values, and beliefs in traditional and contemporary Indigenous art forms.
  • Identify symbols found in the traditional and contemporary art forms and stories of specific Indigenous groups.
  • Explain how symbols/stories represent specific Indigenous cultures.
  • Explain the importance of art form/stories to a cultural group.
