Concepts of Belonging

This lesson plan is a part of the Self Efficacy and Indigenous Development Series.  The specific chapter is called "Indigenous Beliefs, Values, and Aspirations in a Contemporary Society".

 

The lesson plan "Concepts of Belonging" are designed to engage youth in the complexities of healthy belonging within our culture, our communities, in our schools with peers and staff.  The lesson plan provides facilitators with ideas, activities, and discussion on issues of belonging.  The lesson plan expectations are below:

 

Overall Expectations:

By the end of this course, students will:

  • describe traditional and contemporary beliefs and values of Indigenous cultures that influence present-day activities and behaviors;
  • identify aspects of cultural identity related to specific Indigenous peoples

 

Specific Expectations:

By the end of this course, students will:

  • describe how Indigenous peoples can express their distinctive identity in multicultural Canada;
  • describe the primary values in relationships (e.g., inclusiveness, fairness, respect) that Indigenous people want to achieve.
